Twelve properties clear our criteria, the median guest score is 9.1, the joint highest of the four main towns, and the median price snapshot is $245, roughly $370 below Yountville. It is also the most walkable of the four: ten of the twelve sit within half a mile of the town center.
Calistoga's identity is geothermal water. That is worth being precise about, because it is the claim most often applied loosely. Of our twelve properties, two carry a mineral or hot springs connection confirmed by their registered name, and one more is pending verification. Six have a pool. A pool is a pool. A spa is a treatment facility. Hot springs means geothermal or mineral water, which is the specific reason many people choose Calistoga over Yountville or St. Helena in the first place.
Only Dr. Wilkinson's Backyard Resort and Mineral Springs and Calistoga Spa Hot Springs carry that connection confirmed in our sources. Value and walkability
Calistoga is where the rating and the price band pull in the same direction. The Inn on Pine scores 9.4 on 386 reviews, has a pool and sits 0.25 miles from the town center in our mid-range band. Mount View Hotel & Spa is 0.08 miles out with a pool, restaurant, bar and terrace, also mid-range, on 301 reviews.
Aurora Park Cottages sits in the same band at 9.2 on 155 reviews. Nothing in Yountville comes close to that combination of rating, position and price.
What Calistoga costs you
Distance. Calistoga sits about 12 miles from our Highway 29 corridor reference point, at the northern end of the valley. It is a longer drive to the central tasting-room stretch than from St. Helena or Yountville, though considerably shorter than from downtown Napa.
