Calistoga Hot Springs Hotels

Calistoga is built on geothermal water, and that is why many people choose it over the rest of the valley. It is also why the hot springs claim gets applied to hotels that do not have one. A hotel being in Calistoga is not evidence that it has thermal water.

Two properties in our selection carry a mineral or hot springs connection we can confirm. One more is flagged for verification and is listed separately below rather than mixed in. That is a short list, and we would rather publish a short accurate one than a long speculative one.

How we selected these hotels

We reviewed 61 geography-checked properties and selected 2 that meet our published criteria. Every property is validated by town name and by coordinates, so nothing from a similarly named place elsewhere in the United States can appear here.

  1. Step 1Guest ratingA score of 8.5 or better, or 8.0 or better where the property supports a defined cluster.
  2. Step 2Review confidenceAt least 50 reviews, so a rating is not carried by a handful of stays. Exceptions are labeled.
  3. Step 3Location fitStraight-line distance to a published town center reference point, grouped into bands.
  4. Step 4Confirmed featuresSpa, pool, restaurant and pet policy taken from the current property data, never inferred.

Full criteria, the Chateau Score formula and every reference coordinate are on our methodology page.

Hot springs, spa and pool are not interchangeable

Hot springs means geothermal or mineral water on site. A spa is a treatment facility, which may or may not use thermal water. A pool may be heated by conventional means and have no geothermal connection at all.

Six of our twelve Calistoga properties have a pool. Three have a spa. Two have a confirmed mineral or hot springs connection. Those three numbers describe three different things.

Pending verification

Mount View Hotel & Spa is the most central property in Calistoga in our selection, scores 8.6 on 301 reviews and carries a pool, restaurant, bar and terrace. Its name includes Spa, but a geothermal or mineral springs connection is not confirmed in our sources, so it is not in the confirmed list above. It is a strong Calistoga hotel regardless, and it appears on our main Calistoga hotels page.

Frequently asked questions

Which Calistoga hotels have hot springs?

In our selection, Dr. Wilkinson's Backyard Resort and Mineral Springs and Calistoga Spa Hot Springs. Both qualify because the mineral or hot springs connection appears in the property's registered name.

Why is this list so short?

Because we only list properties where the connection can be evidenced. Several Calistoga hotels may have thermal facilities we have not been able to confirm. When we verify them against an official source, they will be added.

Is a hot springs hotel the same as a spa hotel?

No. See our Napa Valley spa hotels selection for properties with a confirmed spa, which is a much longer list.

Which should you choose?

Choose Dr. Wilkinson's Backyard Resort and Mineral Springs for a central position and a Medium review base. Choose Calistoga Spa Hot Springs if you also want a confirmed spa on site. If thermal water is not essential, our main Calistoga hotels page has considerably stronger options on rating and value.
