Napa Valley Hotel Prices by Town

The price gap between Napa Valley towns is larger than most people expect, and it does not track guest satisfaction. The median price snapshot across our eight Yountville properties is $614. Across our twelve Calistoga properties it is $245, and Calistoga has the higher median guest score of the two.

An important limit before the numbers: these are snapshots stored in our source data, not live rates. They are useful for comparing towns against each other and useless for working out what a room will cost on your dates.

Median stored price snapshots by town: Yountville $614, St. Helena $345, Napa $247 and Calistoga $245.

The four towns compared

Median price snapshot: Calistoga $245, Napa $247, St. Helena $345, Yountville $614. Rutherford has a single property at $418.

The distribution matters as much as the median. Yountville has no property in either of our two lower price bands, and six of its eight sit in the highest. Napa spreads across all four bands, with 7 in the lowest. Calistoga has 2 in the lowest and 1 in the highest.

Where the value is

Calistoga is the clearest case. Its median guest score of 9.1 is the joint highest of the four main towns, on roughly 40 percent of the Yountville median price, and 10 of its 12 properties are within half a mile of the town center.

Within Napa, Hilton Garden Inn Napa is the sharpest single value case in the whole selection: a 9.1 score with both a pool and a spa in our lowest price band. Nothing else pairs those three things.

What Yountville's premium buys

Position and format, not rating. Yountville's median guest score is 8.95 against Napa's 8.85, a difference of a tenth of a point for roughly two and a half times the median price. What it does buy is a compact walkable village, a concentration of high-end properties and about 8 miles less driving to the winery corridor than from Napa.

Frequently asked questions

Which Napa Valley town is cheapest?

Calistoga and Napa are close, at median snapshots of $245 and $247. Yountville is the outlier at $614.

Are these prices current?

No. They are stored snapshots used for relative comparison. Always check live rates for your dates before booking.

Does a higher price mean a better hotel?

Not in our data. Yountville is the most expensive town and does not have the highest median guest score.

The short answer

If budget is a constraint, compare Calistoga first: it is the only town in our selection that combines the joint-highest median guest score with the lowest median price. If it is not a constraint, Yountville buys position rather than ratings.
